The Channon Craft Market

Pet and Alcohol Free Event

ALL FUTURE MARKETS ON HOLD

The Channon Craft Market Management Committee and Manager are actively managing how the current CO-VID 19 pandemic will affect our market, retailers and staff and taking advice from relevant government sources.
The Management Committee made the decision in March to cancel our April Market with immediate effect and future markets will resume when we are advised it is safe to do so, at this moment given the current information, this means that all future markets will be cancelled until we receive update advice from the NSW Government.

The Channon Craft Market Management Committee support the decision that the NSW Government has enforced regarding mass gatherings for non-essential services and action. It saddens us all, we cannot continue to trade, but under the current circumstances surrounding the health and safety of our retailers, staff and community we agree this is the best thing for all of us. The cancellation of The Channon market directly impacts over 240 small businesses, our staff members and our community groups. The flow on from this will affect many more people in so many ways.

We are devastated that the impact to the market’s viability alongside the floods and fires will mean that hard decisions will have to be made regarding the service we provide. We are more than ‘the markets’ we are a hub for our community, our small business creating economic growth and offering employment opportunities for so many. We acknowledge the impact on other events, markets and fairs that this strong decision to ban all gatherings of more than 500 will have on their financial affairs, our thoughts are with them also.

The Management Committee will continue to meet and make decisions based on the safety and health of our community at large. A subcommittee will meet to discuss other options that
will support our retailers and community groups.

We wish you all well and hope that the virus is slowed by individuals taking control and acting for the best interest of our communities. Stay safe and remember we are all in this together.

Sorry to let everyone know that the Mother's Day market,  Sunday 14th May, has been cancelled. The recent rain, means the grounds are very wet and there is heavy rain forecast on Sunday. As the April Market was also cancelled we are very much looking forward to a bright and sunny day for the next market date: June 11th - QUEENS BIRTHDAY LONG WEEKEND

Forty years ago, The Channon Craft Market Inc. was born into The Channon village. It’s strongly held ethic of “Make It, Bake It, Grow It” flourished and this is still nurtured by the market today. TCCM proudly stands strong, 40 years on.

Let’s all stand together and acknowledge the benefits and opportunity that evolves here every month, an amazing example of community. Thank you to everyone over this period for their passion and deliverance to create this unique community market.

The market officially was started The Channon Hall in 1976, the community’s close by were getting together prior to this and the idea transformed from the folks who regularly met, the market quickly outgrew the hall and moved to it’s present location at Coronation Park.

The Market was originally set up to trade and barter goods between members of the community. Its’s creation also provided a meeting place for like-minded people to explore current environmental issues and raise much needed funds to support the community. The Channon Craft Market has grown enormously in size and reputation since then.

The Market has evolved during the last 40 years to become a Non-Profit Community Organisation coordinated by a Management Committee of nine volunteers. They meet regularly to manage the diverse needs of our popular market. Held on the second Sunday of the month, preparation for Market day begins well in advance.

The scene is set - serene Coronation Park seems magically transformed overnight into a festival of colour. Since the start of the market, on rotation, a local community charity has the opportunity to fundraise at The Channon Craft Market with the use

The Channon Craft Market Inc 40th Anniversary of the kitchen at Coronation Park and collecting money from the patrons at the gates.

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the June market, which was to be held on Sunday 14th. Due to prolonged rain the grounds are wet and not suitable for stalls to be set up on and the car-parks are looking like they could be boggy on Sunday, with predicted rain for the next few days we feel its the best decision.

We wanted to let everyone know well before the market so stallholders, don't and market goers can rearrange their weekends. Have a glorious weekend and hope to see you all on July 12th.

The Channon Craft Market is a family friendly event with accessible pathways, lots of shade, seating and entertainment. This month we will be celebrating "Mothers Day", the markets are a fantastic destination for that day out, bring Mum for breakfast or lunch, hang out together and soak up the riches of the Northern Rivers Hinterlands and beyond. A special day out for all, pony rides, jumping castle, candle making, over 200 stallholders showcasing some of them most amazing wares. Please remember to leave your pets at home.

Also, remember to mark Saturday June 20th in your calendar, this is the date for the annual Lismore Lantern Parade. If you have never been, it is truly an event not to be missed, with visitors from all over Australia coming to celebrate this special night. See all of the details at: www.lanternparade.com

Creative HeARTS Space is provided by the Market as a community Arts & Crafts workshop space. Each month we offer a varying range of Arts & Crafts activities for both children and adults. With a focus on natural fibres and the Old Crafts i.e.  Basket Weaving, crochet, knitting, spinning, string making, crystal wrapping, beading, screen printing, painting, etc. Located opposite the Chai tent, it is a place to relax and tap into your creative spirit.

This month the space will hold free workshops for folks who wish to learn various craft projects, each month the workshops vary. Come and have a seat and pull up some craft and have a yarn. A great place just to create and watch the market go by.

Yes the Market is on! We had some lovely rain yesterday but the oval is in good condition and we are looking forward to a great day. We hope to see you here.
